What are some basic cat supplies needed?
I am getting a cat. We will all be responsible for taking care of it. I want to know, what are the basic supplies needed. Rite now i need a little bit of things for my cat. eventually i will buy it more. Just list some items i must have for the cat in order for it to survive?

You really don't need that much to take care of a cat. Just a lot of love and a few basics... Remember, to spade/nu your cat. And, get all the needed vaccinations. In order needed: 1. Food Start with food the cat has been currently eating. Can get this after you take home your cat. Iams is wonderful and gives your cat a sleek coat, yet expensive. 2. Litter box and scoop prefer: litter box inclosed with door. Some come with scoop. Sometimes you can find a bundled starter kit. These can be less expensive. 3. Litter for the litter box I prefer clumping. 4. Collar and tag Can purchase the tag at your local petco/pet store. Important, because it gives information in case your pet gets lost. 5. Nail Clippers and a Brush ps: I also like to have a roller to get pet hair off of furniture (you can also use packing tape) You don't have to spend a fortune on toys. Cats love yarn. Cats love toilet paper tubes. You can take an toilet paper tube, wrap yarn around it with glue, make and attach felt eyes and a face, poke holes and tie yarn for arms, and then attach it to a long piece of yarn. When it is dry, drag your creation around the room. Your cat will love chasing you. Some cats love cardboard boxes (to scratch, to climb in, to rub against). You can take a box and cut doorways, place a pretend mouse inside. Many scratchers are made with cardboard. Use your imagination. Cats also love balls in all sizes. My cat loves small foam footballs. Congrats! You will love having a pet cat. Good Luck.

Cat supplies?????????????
i'm adopting a kitty cat soon. It is only about five weeks old (yes i know they should be adopted at 8 weeks, but this one was abandoned!) and im gonna adopt him hopefully this tuesday. I need to know the VERY BEST brands of cat food and litter. I don't want value brands from some store (well maybe if they are good..), I need the MOST effective stuff. I need the most powerful brand of kitty litter because i cant stand the smell, and i want the best brand of food because i want my kitty to live long and healthy. Price doesn't matter that much, but i mean if its seventy dollars thats redonkulous. Please help me give it the best life possible @chris, I'm sure your mom is just as smart as you!( which isnt much to begin with..)

Feed with kitten milk replacer (KMR) mixed into the food until the kitten is at least 12 weeks old. I only feed canned (Brandon Farms), but whatever you feed the first ingredient needs to be some form of "meat" and not "by-products", and there should be no wheat or other grains in the food. Cats can't digest grains, and it causes all sorts of digestive issues, obesity, diabetes, urinary tract problems, vomiting, etc. If at all possible, keep the kitten with at least one litter mate or similar-aged kitten until he's at least 12 weeks old. Kittens learn "how to be cats" from their litter mates. Without that socialization, you might have a "weird" cat. Then again, he might be just fine. Until the kittens are 6 months old they "should" be using clay litter, but I find that my foster kittens like to use my adult cats' boxes (Scoop Away) as soon as they are capable of jumping in there. I would NOT use "World's Best Cat Litter". It sticks to the side of the box, the cats track it all over the house, and it STINKS! Add to that lots of stories where pets ATE it (corn) and died or had serious medical issues. Other than that, I have no recommendation for litter.

What websites do you purchase your cat supplies, toys, and furniture from?
I'm looking for more supplies to keep our cats entertained and happy. I already use Drs. Foster and Smith, PetCo, and Pet Smart. Are there any other websites that you've ordered from that are reputable and have good experience with? We're always looking for new toys, beds, and furniture for our growing gang of felines.

Hi there, I am very pleased with every experience I have had with http://www.petside.com. We purchase all our pet food, litter and toys from them. What I also like about the site is that once you are on their email list, announcements are regularly sent to customers advertising special sales and often very generous discounts. These discounts, combined with sale prices generally wipe out shipping costs. I have had a couple of products that were not satisfactory. I called their 800 number and talked with customer service. They always credited my account or shipped me a new item to replace it. Very friendly and helpful folks work there. I also use http://www.entirelypets.com/ for certain products. Their staff also is very helpful. Shipments arrive on schedule. Both of these sites have been really excellent. I heartily recommend them. Edit: I forgot to include one item I purchased from petfooddirect. It is a little Cat Cozy Kingdom. My cats use it constantly. It is a short, coffee table height hiding place, that is covered with a very appealing scratching surface. My cats are always in it or on it. Rub some catnip on it and it becomes a heat seeking missle immediately. http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/product_detail.asp?pf%5Fid=30797408&dept%5Fid=118&brand%5Fid=346&Page=&mscssid=60HTEVFGRQPT9NS7K42X0MXSHT605E4F Troublesniffer Owned by cats for over 40 years Member: Cat Writer's Association

What are some good cat supplies?
I might get a cat so I won't to be ready. What are some approved cat supplies, that will make the cat feel good?

A good food -- I feed my guys Evo and it's working well A cat bed Toys -- if it's a kitten (or an adult who likes to chew) you'll need chew toys as well as some just for play Treats A cat box A good non-clay litter A litter scoop A brush Claw clippers (the small scissor-like ones are easy to use have your vet teach you how to clip safely) and styptic powder (just in case) catnip A collar cat toothbrush and toothpaste (so far they all seem to enjoy it once they get used to the notion) Some things to consider: When to spay/neuter microchipping vaccinations and checkups information on emergency care just in case. You'll also want to cat/kitten "proof" your home... much like doing so for a toddler actually.... cats can open the lower cabinets in your kitchen and bathroom... so make sure all bottled of anything toxic are shut tightly or put child guards on them. Some cats like to chew electrical cords... and yes, that can kill them (one of mine came close but recovered... after a $500 vet bill and a $150 cord replacement for some computer equipment)... split loom cable covers and attaching cords to the wall wherever possible so that they can't be chewed is a good idea. Also, any furniture that has the possibility of tipping over if the cat jumps on it needs to be attached to the wall, or at least the heaviest items be put on the lowest shelves so that the cats weight won't make it tippy and top-heavy. Small breakables need to be behind doors.... or they may turn into many, much smaller and sharper... cat toys. There's no such thing as a shelf that's "too high" for a cat.... if they want to find their way up there, they will. Another thing to be prepared for.... fun.... cats love to play and interact with their humans.... they also usually love to sleep with us and snuggle .... which overall outweighs all the preparation for having them in your life.... Good luck!
